The Sales Summary report is the base report for all User reporting needs for sales dollars. The report is based on the Invoice sales dollars, Invoice Date, and Sales Rep on Customer.

This Sales Summary can be looked at in a variety of User-selectable ways. This functionality was designed to bring a sub-set of the Data Analysis capabilities to the Report Explorer. Each view is has its different uses, here is a summary of some of the common ways to look at sales numbers:

  • "Sales By" "Customer", "Details" "Principals" Showing the Customers as the first level of the table, with the details of which lines the customer is purchasing (the Principals) listed under each customer entry.
  • "Sales By" "Principal", "Details" "Customer" Show the Principals as the first level, with the details of the Customer total for each of the Principals.
  • "Sales By" "Sales Rep", "Details" "Principal" Show how each of the sales reps is doing with each of the Principals (Principals listed below each sales rep.

These are only some of the possibilities -- each dimensions, Customer and Principal and Sales Rep, can be shown in any combination with another, or with no Details level at all. With the Details level set to "<no details>" the User is presented with a summary of the "Sales By" entry.
Parameters
There are quite a few parameters available on this report, each parameter is explained in detail on the Sales- and Commissions-based Reports' Parameters page. These parameters are what allows the User to customize the report to their needs. Try different combinations of parameters to get a feel for the options available.

Typical Parameters/View
Following are a set of common questions that a User might want to look at the answer for. The answer is provided in the form of the set of parameters to generate a report to answer the question.

Q: Who has purchased from me this month? Option: What lines did they purchase?
A: "Sales By" "Customer"; option: "Details" "Principal"; "Show $0 in current month" unchecked; select Sales Rep. Shows each customer for the selected sales rep, and optionally the line purchased. Turning off the "Show $0 in current month" option excludes anyone that hasn't purchased in the selected month (the month of the End Date), so that this report is truly just a filtered list of active customers in the month.

Q: We need to grow a particular line, how has each sales rep been doing with that line year to date?
A: "Sales By" "Sales Rep"; "Details" "<no details>"; select the Principal from the list; select "Show $0 in Current Year" and "Show $0 in Current Month". These parameters show every sales rep who has had any activity with Able Manufacturering in the current time period or the year previous. It shows sales for the current month, current time period, previous year time period, and the total sales for the previous year. The "% Diff" shows the change in sales from last year to this year.

Inset under the Sales By entry is the Details entry if selected.
